OUR WORKSHOPS

 

• ½ DAY OR FULL DAY INITIATION ON TYE-DYE TECHNIQUES
  You will spend ½ day or a fullday with the women tye-dyers. They will provide you with a white piece of material, help you choose your design and realize it. Finally you will tye-dye your piece of fabric choosing your colours. You will own your work.
   

• ½ DAY OF FULL DAY INITIATION TO SAND-PAINTING TECHNIQUES
  Sand painting is one of the most popular arts of Senegal. The technique is strictly based on the use of local raw material (sand of the dune, beach sand, vulcano sands etc…). The designs are typically African. You will own your sand painting.
   

• ½ DAY OR FULL DAY INITIATION TO BASKET WEAVING
  Basket weaving is a common craft in Senegal. The type of baskets and the colours vary from region to region. With the basket weavers of Dakar you will have the possibility to realize the type of work you like the best and own it.
   

• ½ DAY OR FULL DAY " UNDERGLASS PAINTING "‘’Underglass’’
  Painting is one of the oldest Senegalese arts. It is very popular in the towns and even in rural areas the painting reproduces daily scenes of life Just as in ‘’Naif Art’’. Some of the underglass painting masters of Dakar will teach you their techniques and you will realize your own paintings.
   

• ½ DAY INITIATION TO WOOD CARVING ( 4 HOURS)
  Your initiation to wood carving techniques will be conducted by the woodcarvers of Soumbedioune handicraft center. You will own the pieces that you realize.
   

• LECTURES
  1 hour lecture on various themes such as :

  • The history of the former Empire of Mali

  • Traditional medicine and healing in West Africa.

  • Evolution of women conditions since the independence of Senegal.

  • The education system of Senegal : situation of today and perspectives in the future.

  • Social organization of Senegal. Health care system and public assistance.

  • Ethnicity and cultures of Senegal

  • Etc …
    
     

• LANGUAGE COURSES
  ​Course of Senegalese national languages such as : Wolof ( the most spoken language), Pular, Serer , Joola, etc
  The basic unit of duration is a 2 hours course per day.
